Auralgan is an analgesic and anesthetic combination used in the ear to treat the symptoms of an ear infection. It may also be used for other ear conditions as determined by your doctor.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. TO USE EAR DROPS: lie down or tilt your head so that the affected ear faces up. For adults: gently pull the earlobe up and back to straighten the ear canal. For children: gently pull the earlobe down and back to straighten the ear canal. Drop the medicine into the ear canal. Keep the ear facing up for several minutes so the medicine can run to the bottom of the ear canal. If you have difficulty keeping this medicine in your ear, ask your doctor about using a clean cotton plug in your ear. To prevent germs from entering the medicine, do not touch the applicator to any surface including the ear. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, away from heat and light. Keep the container tightly closed. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as possible. Why is Auralgan prescribed?
Auralgan is prescribed to reduce the inflammation and congestion and relieve the pain and discomfort of severe middle ear infections. This drug may be used in combination with an antibiotic for curing the infection.
Auralgan is also used to remove excessive or impacted earwax.

How should you use Auralgan?
Use Auralgan exactly as prescribed. Administer as follows:
Warm the drops to body temperature by holding the bottle in your hand for a few minutes.
Shake the bottle.
Lie on your side or tilt the affected ear up.
Gently pull the ear lobe up.
Administer the prescribed number of drops.
Avoid touching the dropper to the ear.
Keep the ear tilted up for about 5 to 7 minutes.
Do not rinse the dropper; replace it in the bottle after each use. Hold the dropper assembly by the screw cap and, without squeezing the rubber bulb, insert the dropper into the bottle and screw down tightly.

Recommended Auralgan dosage
ADULTS AND CHILDREN
Acute Otitis Media (Severe Middle Ear Infection):
Apply the medication drop by drop into the ear, permitting the solution to run along the wall of the ear canal until it is filled. Avoid touching the ear with the dropper. Then moisten a piece of cotton dressing material, such as gauze, with Auralgan and insert it into the opening of the ear. Repeat every 1 to 2 hours until pain and congestion are relieved.
Removal of Earwax:
Apply Auralgan drop by drop into the ear 3 times daily for 2 or 3 days to help detach and remove earwax from the wall of the ear canal.
After the wax has been removed, Auralgan is useful for drying out the canal or relieving discomfort.
Before and after the removal of earwax, cotton dressing material such as gauze should be moistened with Auralgan and inserted into the opening of the ear following use of the medication.
