Cutinova Hydro is a Hydro-selective, self adhesive sterile wound dressing consisting of two layers - a polyurethane gel matrix and a polyurethane top-film which is waterproof and acts as a bacterial barrier. Cutinova Hydro is a new type of dressing which has a unique way of working. During wound healing, the body produces fluid in the wound and in the fluid are many small proteins, including growth factors, which help to direct the process. Most chronic wound dressings absorb this fluid. The Cutinova Hydro range of dressings are unique in the way that they work. They absorb mainly the water from wound fluid and leave growth factors and proteins in the wound. Cutinova Hydro can be used on a number of different chronic wounds such as venous leg ulcers and pressure ulcers (bed sores). It can be used on all exuding wounds but is most suitable for low to moderately exuding wounds. Cutinova Hydro dressings are composed of a polyurethane matrix with embedded superabsorbent particles, and a polyurethane top-film. The dressings are inherently adhesive but will not stick to a moist wound. This minimises disruption to the delicate healing tissues during dressing change. Many of the traditional chronic wound dressings turn into a 'gel' when they come into contact with wound fluid. This gel can be odourous and messy to remove. Cutinova Hydro does not gel and it can be easily removed in one piece with no mess or smell. This makes dressing changes more pleasant for both the healthcare professional and the patient. Cutinova Hydro is also semi-transparent, enabling the clinician to see the wound without changing the dressing.
