Dicural
Dicural (difloxacin HCl) is Fort Dodge Animal Health’s fluoroquinolone antibiotic that offers veterinarians once-per-day dosing to treat deep infections caused by a variety of gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens. Dicural has excellent tissue penetration and has tissue levels measured out to 24 hours in the bone, prostate, lungs, urine, and many other tissues. Dicural features a longer elimination half-life than any veterinary quinolone, meaning the drug is slowly eliminated from the body and is available to treat the infection. With Dicural, effective bactericidal levels are reached within 30 minutes. High bactericidal plasma levels are achieved and maintained for up to 24 hours. Veterinarians benefit from the sustained bactericidal efficacy and flexible dosing of Dicural, allowing them to safely regulate the amount of difloxacin administered. As with all fluoroquinolones, Dicural is not recommended for use in immature dogs during the rapid growth phase and dogs known to be hypersensitive to fluoroquinolones. In clinical studies, the most common adverse reaction involved the gastrointestinal tract.
