What is Drontal used for
Drontal is a broad spectrum dewormer used for the removal of tapeworms, hookworms, roundworms and whipworms in dogs.
Drontal Availability
Praziquantel and pyrantel pamoate with febantel is available as scored tablets for small dogs (2-25 lbs) and medium or large dogs (26-120 lbs) by prescription.
How Drontal should be used
Drontal is FDA approved for use in dogs and puppies at least 3 weeks old and 2 lbs. The usual dose of small dog tablets for 2-4 lbs is ½ tab, 5-7 lbs is 1 tab, 8-12 lbs is 1 ½ tab, 13-18 lbs is 2 tabs and 19-25 lbs is 2 ½ tabs. The usual dose of medium and large tablets for 26-30 lbs is 1 tab, 31-44 lbs is 1 ½ tabs. 45-60 lbs is 2 tabs, 61-74 lbs is 2 ½ tabs, 75-90 lbs is 3 tabs, 91-104 lbs is 3 ½ tabs and 105-120 lbs is 4 tabs. Tablets may be mixed with food. Fasting is neither necessary nor recommended.

What Drontal special precautions are there
Drontal should not be used in animals allergic to it. Because humans can contract tapeworm, hookworm and roundworm from animals, it is important to maintain good personal hygiene.
