Other Quinidine side effects may include:
Anemia, anxiety, depression, eye inflammation, fainting, fever, flushing, hives, inflammation of the connective tissue, itching, joint pain, lack of coordination, liver problems, lung inflammation and other conditions, muscle pain, nervousness, psychotic reaction, reddish or purplish spots below the skin, sensitivity to light, skin inflammation and peeling, swelling of the lips and tongue or throat, tremor, vomiting, wheezing

Special Quinidine information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

The effects of Quinidine during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, tell your doctor immediately. Quinidine does appear in breast milk and can affect a nursing infant. If this medication is essential to your health, your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding until your treatment is finished.

Recommended Quinidine dosage

ADULTS

Your dose will be decided by your doctor, based on your particular heart problem and your general health. If you have a serious heart condition, your doctor will start therapy in the hospital, where you can be closely monitored. The usual starting dose is two 275-milligram tablets every 6 hours or one 275-milligram tablet every 6 to 8 hours, depending on the condition being treated. If you are able to tolerate this dosage and your condition warrants it, your doctor may increase the medication. After 2 or 3 days of close monitoring, you will be discharged and may be maintained on this dosage. Your doctor may suggest using a Holter monitor (a device that records your heart rate 24 hours a day) to check your reaction to the drug.

CHILDREN

Quinidine has been used to treat malaria in children. However, the safety and effectiveness of this medication in children with abnormal heart rhythms has not been studied.

Quinidine Overdosage

Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences; and an overdose of Quinidine can be fatal. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical treatment immediately.
