AGRYLIN DESCRIPTION

Agrylin

Agrylin is manufactured by Shire Pharmaceuticals. This medicine is a platelet-reducing agent used to decrease platelet counts and the risk of blood clots in patients with essential thrombocythemia. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Where can I order Agrylin from? Can I buy Agrylin at Canadian prices?

Yes, if you are from the U.S. then you can buy Agrylin at Canadian prices. Currently we will only accept an order for Agrylin from U.S. and Canadian residents. Both U.S. and Canadian residents require a prescription to purchase Agrylin and when you order Agrylin it will be shipped with express shipping.

What is Agrylin and why is it prescribed?

Agrylin is a prescription medication with the generic name anagrelide hydrochloride.

It is prescribed for the treatment of patients with thrombocytosis, a condition in which there are too many platelets in the blood. Thrombocytosis is often present in patients with MPDs like Essential Thrombocythemia (ET) and Polycythemia-Vera (P-Vera).

The way that Agrylin works in the body to reduce your platelet count is not fully understood.

What is known, however, is that the action of Agrylin is focused specifically on platelets.

As a result, Agrylin may not have a clinically significant effect on other cells in your blood, such as white cells, which help fight infection, and has no clinically significant effect on red cells, which carry oxygen throughout your body.

In addition, Agrylin does not affect the body's natural processes to clot blood when needed.

Agrylin, therefore, lowers your platelet count and offers the safety advantages of platelet-specific action.

Please see complete Important Safety Information and Prescribing Information for details about Agrylin.

What benefits can I expect from taking Agrylin?

In clinical studies, Agrylin provided important medical benefits to patients with ET, P-Vera, and other MPDs and achieved one of the most critical goals of treatment — it lowered platelet counts dramatically.

Lowering platelet counts resulted in fewer symptoms, including serious symptoms related to blockages in blood vessels and bleeding.

Who should take Agrylin?

Patients with ET, P-Vera, and other MPDs who have excessive platelet counts may be candidates to take Agrylin.

Your physician uses blood tests to determine the number of platelets in your blood and can best decide if Agrylin is right for you.
Should Agrylin be taken during pregnancy or while nursing an infant?

The effect of Agrylin in pregnancy has not yet been determined. Therefore, Agrylin is not recommended for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant.

If you are a woman of childbearing age, and you are taking Agrylin, you should take steps to prevent pregnancy. You should discuss with your doctor appropriate contraception options.

If you become pregnant, contact your physician immediately and discuss whether or not you should continue taking Agrylin.

It is not known whether Agrylin can pass from a mother to her nursing infant in breast milk. Many medications, however, are passed through breast milk.

Because of this and the potential for serious adverse effects from Agrylin in nursing infants, nursing mothers should decide with their physicians whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug.

How often should I take Agrylin?

You should take Agrylin exactly as your physician tells you.

The capsule strength and the number of times you need to take Agrylin each day are based on your platelet count, your response to treatment, and how well you tolerate taking Agrylin.

Your physician will keep track of your response to Agrylin and change your dosage as needed.

Agrylin can be taken with or without food. Taking Agrylin is convenient since you do not have to plan each dose around meals.

NOTE: It is important to take Agrylin (anagrelide hydrochloride) Capsules as prescribed by your physician even if you are not having any symptoms at the current time.

Remember, one of the goals of treatment with Agrylin is to prevent symptoms from occurring.

Does Agrylin cause any side effects?

Most of the side effects of Agrylin have been mild to moderate and may decrease with continued therapy. The most commonly reported side effects include headaches, fast or forceful heartbeat, diarrhea, weakness, fluid retention, nausea, dizziness, abnormal pain, shortness of breath, and gas.

Agrylin should be used with caution in patients with known or suspected heart disease, renal or hepatic insufficiency, and pregnant patients. A pretreatment cardiovascular examination is recommended along with careful monitoring during treatment of Agrylin.
