FLUVOXAMINE – ORAL TABLET (flew-VOX-uh-meen)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Luvox
USES: Fluvoxamine is used to treat obsessive-compulsive (OCD) disorders.
OTHER USES: This medication may also be used for depression.
HOW TO TAKE THIS MEDICATION: Take this medication by mouth exactly as prescribed. It is usually taken at bedtime. Your dose may be adjusted gradually during the first weeks of therapy to find the dose just right for you. Follow dosing instructions closely. Do not take this more often, increase your dose or stop taking this without first consulting your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause nausea, vomiting, constipation, upset stomach, weakness, loss of appetite, delayed ejaculation, decreased libido, urinary frequency, altered sexual function, drowsiness, headache, dry mouth, nervousness, trouble sleeping, increased sweating, tremor or altered taste sensations. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop:
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: a history of seizures, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, allergies (especially drug allergies). This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This medication appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use, especially of:
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, loss of consciousness, severe nausea, breathing problems, irregular heartbeat, tremors, and seizures.
NOTES: Laboratory tests may be done periodically while taking this medication to monitor the effects.
MISSED DOSE: Try to take each dose at the scheduled time. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose. Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not ‘double-up’ the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store this medication at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
