Gemfibrozil information for people that are required to take this medicine

Gemfibrozil is classified under the group of drugs called fibric acids. It lowers the risk of having stroke, heart attack (may be due to atherosclerosis), or other heart complications, in people with high cholesterol and triglycerides who have tried undergoing other treatment methods which were not effective. The drug may also be beneficial to people with pancreatitis (inflammation of pancreas) because it may treat very high cholesterol and triglyceride levels that comes along with this kind of disease.

It is primarily used to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides (fatty acids) levels in the blood. Cholesterol and triglyceride may increase the risk of atherosclerosis, a condition where in a plaque forms on arterial walls, blocking the pathway of blood and may deprive organs or specific areas of blood supply, leading to more serious conditions.

Contraindications:

If you are allergic to Gemfibrozil, using it would be very harmful to you. If you are prescribed with repaglinide (Prandin) at the same time, or if have gallbladder disease, liver disease, or severe kidney disease, it is not recommended for you to use Gemfibrozil. Drug Interactions:
