Made up of a thin flexible dressing of viscose non-woven fabric bound by semi permeable polyurethane membrane, Mepiform is easy to apply because of its inner surface which is non-woven coated with a layer of soft silicone. This maintains the retention of the dressing into the skin without causing epidermal stripping or pain during removal. Although the dressing is waterproof, it allows water vapor to be released. It is individually wrapped in paper or plastic laminated peel pouches, sterilized with ethylene oxide.

Mepiform is designed to control both old and new hypertrophic and keloid scars.
It is being applied by removing the protective plastic film to reveal the surface which will directly touch the skin. Select a dressing that is at least one centimeter larger than the area of the wound to be treated. Before removing the protective film, be sure to cut the oversized dressing.
The area to be treated must be cleaned and dried thoroughly. Remove the film and apply the dressing to the affected area. Be sure to give extra care on stretching the dressing especially over joints. When using ointment or cream, make sure that the dressing covers beyond the cream for adequate adhesion.
Mepiform can be worn for 24 hours and is safe to be removed once a day to examine and wash the skin, and can also be reapplied. Normally, a new dressing has to be applied every 3 to 7 days as long as the adherent properties of the dressing are still adequate. Improvement of the wound and the old scar can only be observed after 3 months.
There are instances when the patient would experience maceration or rashes. If this happened allow the skin to recover by removing the dressing checking its condition daily. Discontinue usage and consult your doctor if symptoms persist.
