Glaucoma is an eye disease characterized by abnormal elevations in the pressure within the eyes. Excessive production of the aqueous humor may eventually lead to blindness if treatment is not initiated. Treatment involves maintenance of the pressure to preserve vision. An increase in fluid leads to increase in optic pressure, leading to the symptoms of Glaucoma. This is a type of medicine known as a beta adrenergic receptor blocking agent, under another name Timolol. Beta adrenergic receptor blocking agents reduce the amount of aqueous humor being produced in the eye, thus reducing intraocular pressure. It can be used for other conditions that desire a lower intraocular pressure, such as chronic open-angle glaucoma, and secondary glaucoma, as in cases of ocular pressure.
